Abstract

Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide with increasing rates in adults and children. Authorities view it as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes,  obstructive  sleep  apena,  certain  type  of  cancer  and  osteoarthritis.  In  Ayurvedic Obesity  is  considered  as  one  among  eight  grave  conditions  to  be  avoided.  Panchakarma therapies are known to play a vital role in reducing obesity. Similarly external therapies like Udvartana also reduce the fat in body. In present clinical trial an attempt has been made to evaluate the efficacy of Vamana, Virechana & Udvartana and to come up with the better choice to reduce Sthaulya. Total 90 patients were registered of which 30 were treated with Vamana, 30 with Virechana & 30 with Udvartana. Result of the study revealed that all the therapies effective in reducing the sign & symptoms as well as physical and biochemical parameters but Vamana was found superior among all the trial therapies.
